The word “hosting” does not describe a particular service, but a number of services which offer various functions to a domain address. Having a site and emails, as an illustration, are two independent services even though in the general case they come together, so a lot of people see them as one single service. In reality, each and every domain name has a several DNS records called A and MX, which show the server that manages each particular service - the former is a numeric IP address, which defines where the website for the domain name is loaded from, while the latter is an alphanumeric string, which shows the server that manages the emails for the domain name. For instance, an A record can be 123.123.123.123 and an MX record would be mx1.domain.com. Every time you open a site or send an email, the global DNS servers are contacted to check the name servers that a Internet domain has and the traffic/message is first forwarded to that company. If you have custom records on their end, the Internet browser request or the e-mail will be forwarded to the correct server. The concept behind using separate records is that the two services work with different web protocols and you may have your website hosted by one company and the emails by another.

Custom MX and A Records in Hosting

If you have a Linux hosting package through us, you'll be able to see, create and change any A or MX record for your Internet addresses. Provided that a specific domain has our Name Servers, you're going to be able to modify particular records using our Hepsia hosting CP and have your website or e-mails directed to another service provider if you wish to use only one of our services. Our innovative tool is going to permit you to have a domain hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted somewhere else by changing only its A record - this will not affect the main Internet domain in any way. If you want to use the email services of another company and they want you to set up more than 2 MX records, you can easily do this with just a few clicks within the DNS Records section of your CP. You can also set different latency for every MX record i.e. which one is going to have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Accessing and modifying the A or MX records for any one of your domain names or subdomains is very easy if you get a semi-dedicated server plan from us. The accounts are maintained via our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel, which has a section dedicated to the DNS records of your domain addresses. The latter is going to be listed alphabetically and you may click on any of them to see both the A and the MX records. Modifying any record is as easy as entering the new one in a text box and saving the change, so in case you have never dealt with such matters before, you will not experience any difficulties if you choose to move your website or emails to some other provider while keeping the second service with our company. If necessary, you may also create additional MX records and set a specific priority depending on the instructions of the new provider.
